Asian curry festival at Asia Kitchen!

Asia Kitchen by Mainland China needs no new recognition to begin with!!! This Asian fine dining restaurant is located on the 4th floor of Acropolis mall and has always managed to pull the crowd with their delectable selection of Asian cuisine. By Asian cuisine, I mean not just Chinese or Thai, but also Malaysian and the rest of the provinces. They have an open kitchen which one will notice on entering the restaurant which makes the dining experience even more memorable.

Asian curry festival is an initiative by them to bring the different oriental flavours to our plates. Considering that I am a vegetarian, this place has not disappointed me with their selection of vegetarian curries, which I find difficult to get in most places.001002003004

They have managed to recreate flavours from different parts of Asia including Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam to name a few.

Their special Asian curry menu had these selection of dishes:-

• Thai Clay-Pot Chicken with Lemongrass & Kaffir Lime

• Chicken Katsu Curry

• Malaysian Fish Curry

• Lamb Shank Rendang Curry

• Prawns Penang Curry

• South Vietnamese Fish Curry with Dill

• Roast Duck Breast Red Curry with Pineapple

• Thai Jungle Curry with Vegetables & Lotus Stem

• Caramelized Tofu in a Clay-Pot Vietnamese Style

• Japanese Golden Curry with Vegetables

I sampled only their vegetarian dishes from the above and here’s my take on them:-

Thai Jungle Curry with Vegetables & Lotus Stem – Lotus stem is widely used in Asian cuisine. The texture and crispiness make it a good appetizer as well as a main course. This curry is rather spicy so it’s not recommended for people who cannot stand spicy food. It had other exotic vegetables along with lotus stem like galangal. It is a treat if you are in for spicy food.

Caramelized Tofu in a Clay-Pot Vietnamese Style – Tofu is one of my favourite ingredients when it comes to Oriental food!! This dish too didn’t disappoint me. The tofu was caramelized at the right places which kept it soft during consumption. Accompanying gravy was mild yet it had the delicate flavours, not making it too complex.

Japanese Golden Curry with Vegetables – The curry had a very homely flavour. This too was made with exotic vegetables and was mildly spiced. It reminded me of a curry which could be enjoyed during monsoons!

All were accompanied with sticky rice which made them all the more delectable. Their original flavours were intact since it was eaten with plain rice.

The Asian curry festival is something to try out for every Oriental cuisine lover. Asia Kitchen has managed to keep the recipes as close to the original recipes. The chef explained every dish carefully to all of us, and the significance of the spices used, especially Kaffir lime. A special round of applause for the chef who managed to cook more vegetarian dishes for me in a very short span of time, since he was not aware that there’s a vegetarian on board!!!
