We were recently invited as team Panchphoron to taste their Rooster menu. This special Rooster Menu has been carefully curated to include chicken delicacies from the Caribbean, French, American, Italian and Oriental cuisines.Even though the menu was short,it gave us a taste of the different flavors of the world.
The dishes we tasted were as follows:-
This was an American speciality. Large pieces of marinated chicken , dusted with flour & deep fried, this was a recipe similar to Colonel Sanders’ recipe for KFC. The pieces were served with mashed potatoes, creamy gravy and a hot yet sweet sauce as accompaniments. The flour coating was optimal and the sauce went pretty well with the fried chicken.
Jamaican Jerk Chicken:
A popular Caribbean street food. These were grilled chicken ,marinated with jerk spices and optimally cooked to make the chicken juicy. The moist and tender meat was not as spicy as one might expect jerk chicken to be,yet it would suit the Indian taste buds. The accompanying potato wedges complimented the chicken well.
Roast Chicken with Rosemary:
This was an Italian chicken preparation. A full chicken, oven roasted with Italian herbs, served with potato wedges and salad. The skin was surprisingly crispy even after being kept for long.It was cooked under the perfect temperature.
A French dish, the chicken breasts were stuffed with creamy spinach mushroom sauce and buttered vegetables.Even though I am a fan of white sauce,I felt that this could do better, since I have tasted better versions of the same dish.
Another French delicacy, this one had boneless chicken breast with sliced mushrooms and brandy cream sauce. A very fine dish indeed.
Asian Spicy Chicken:
Finally came the Oriental style cooked chicken. This had broccoli, red and green bell peppers, baby corn, mushroom, zucchini and onions in chef’s special sauce. It was visually quite appealing. The sauce seeped in through the diced chicken which imparted the perfect amount of flavor.
The rooster dishes are accompanied with any two accompaniments of your choice from boiled veggies/mashed potato/potato wedges/garlic bread/herbed pilaf rice.We tasted each one of these accompaniments and all tasted good, potato wedges being my favorite because of it’s slightly brown coating. The entire menu is a ‘dream come true’ for all chicken lovers like me,since what more can we ask for than chicken cooked in so many ways!A special thanks to our gracious host,Mili di,for making the event more special.
